Among Stravinsky’s early friends and supporters in Paris was Claude Debussy. When the famous French composer attended a performance of 
 in 1911, he was thrilled at what he heard. A year later the two men played through Stravinsky’s watershed work,

Stravinsky and Russian folk music
Stravinsky developed his unique musical idiom during this period of his life through a creative encounter with Russian folk music. The earliest examples of his novel approach to folk tunes are found in the score of
