Plot and dramatic structure
The scenario for 
Petrushka
 was conceived jointly by Igor Stravinsky and Alexandre Benois. Central to the ballet is the story of three puppets mysteriously brought to life at St. Petersburg’s Shrovetide Fair. You can find a synopsis of the plot with music examples

Genesis and première
In the late summer of 1910, Igor Stravinsky started work on a piece for piano and orchestra. It is owing to the initiative of Sergey Diaghilev that this burlesque became the ballet 
Petrushka
